VPC Went Vegas 2012 Day 6:

Besides Fratie waking me with his clumsiness around 6 AM I have a decent night of sleep. I can’t even begin to tell you much better I feel compared to the 2010 trip and my foot starts looking like an actual foot again so I’m ready for long day of Vegas money burning activities. I play some poker at IP before heading for The Mirage where a group breakfast is supposed to happen.

Today Barcelona is playing Milan and with the 0-0 in Milan the week before this could become interesting. The 10 to 1 odds on Milan to win make me wager some pocket change. As you may have noticed I have about as much gamble in me as the next dead guy. The idea of investing money in activities that have a 100% -EV outcome in the long run strikes me as stupid. I don’t think I’ve lost $ 50,- on random gambling activities yet – not including poker obv – and most of that moniez was well spend hunting cheap beers. I do enjoy watching the gambling though. Especially when Iebus is involved. I’ve seen Iebus lose his shirt in at least five different countries but the man just won’t stop smiling during the process. A typical conversation with Iebus goes like this:

Me: "How’s it going?"
Iebus: "Great. My number 14 fell on roulette and I just called a guy with K high in a $ 200,- pot"
Me: "Did you win that pot?"
Iebus: "Yup"
Me: "How much are you up?"
Iebus: "Down $ 400,-"
Me: "Hmm"

Only five of us made it to The Mirage yet so we wait for more to come. Iebus can’t leave Vegas without picking a winner at the horse races. For some reason Iebus’s horses always either stay in their booth, break their neck in the first five steps or run in a completely different direction. Today is no different.

When even Baars made it to the Mirage we order breakfast. I’ve been eating rather unhealthy so far so I decide to go for the Salad Wraps. The Salad Wraps are on the menu as a ‘starter’. Having some experience with what you Americans call starters of ‘half portions’ I’m sure it will be enough to cure starvation in a small country. It takes my unhealthy eating ass ten minutes to figure out how to attack this meal. I thought the waiter forgot my wraps but when I’m about to embarrass myself by asking for them it strikes me that the salad may just as well be the wraps. I should really start eating more healthy stuff.

Dutch referee Bjorn Kuipers is butchering the Barcelona – Milan match by throwing around penalty kicks and red cards as if they where candy. The game is pretty much over at half-time which isn’t too bad since we need be at Aria by 1 PM for their afternoon tournament. The Aria tournament is without any doubt best daily ~ $ 100,- tournament on the strip. Besides Peltinho, Iebus, Hugo and me 91 more souls try their luck this Tuesday afternoon creating a 3Kish first prize.

Card dead is the theme for this afternoon. Not for Iebus though. Iebus is at my table and show’s top set every other hand while others are showing middle of bottom set. He has about 40k after level two. Some hot run. I can’t get anything going. I open a lot in LP but can’t flop jack and barrels are called all day. I’ve made a four way deal in this tournament last trip for about $ 1800,- each and I was down to 700 chips after the first orbit back then so no need to worry just yet.

After a few hours and ditto table changes I find myself playing 13k at 500/1000/100. I ship 62o – first open ship should always be with air imo – in the cutoff and get instaed by the BB’s 33. Rather thin with her 20BB stack. I’m hardly surprised to see the lovely door card; 3.

Hugo busted the tournament as well. Iebus and Peltinho are still in decent shape but I don’t feel like hanging around and since I can walk again Hugo, VDH & me make the trip towards Bellagio. The Cosmopolitan Casino is the only casino I haven’t visited on the strip as it wasn’t around in Feb. 2010. I don’t spot anything worth looking at within the first seconds so we just walk trough the place on our way to Bellagio. Walking towards Bellagio I stop and absorb the view of this great casino in the bright sunlight. Day after tomorrow I will be back home again and god knows how long it will take before I get to see this beauty again.

I haven’t played at Bellagio yet this trip which is a disgrace obvious so I sit down in the 1/2 game asap. I play for about three hours but the poker just doesn’t seem to go my way this trip. I can’t win a decent pot the entire session. I cash out and go see how Hugo is doing. I see a 427JA board and Hugo bets 25. Opponent raises to 60. Hugo shoves for 150 total. Opponent calls showing J2. Hugo shows A9 Hugo likes thin value…. Hugo stays in his chair despite the fact that all his chips are going somewhere else. He looks at me and - freely translated – says "Boy, I was playing some attacking poker again – two second pause - and Boy, that was YET AGAIN very expensive" causing me to walk out of the poker room with tears rolling over my cheeks in laughter.

I decide to loose my money a little less quickly in IP’s 2/4 game. It’s almost 7PM so getting started with the drinking business seems in order. The waitress could easily be Usain Bolt’s sister so I’m already feeling the booze when we go for dinner around nine. Today we eat a "Kwok". Kwok is a chef in Caesars Beijing Noodles No. 9. Kwok sounds more funny so we call it that. I haven’t eaten at Kwok’s yet but the boys say it good and the hostess is supposably very yummy. We haven’t made reservations so we waste a good 30 minutes of effective Clubbin’time waiting.

The portions are bit small but the food is really good and the hostess is indeed white-hot. It’s around 11 when it’s time for serious Clubbin’. During our 2009 trip we ended up at Ghostbar somehow and loved the place / view. I’ve read that the Voodoo Lounge has great view as well and they offer an open bar package for only $ 75,- on weeknights so we go and check that out. We decide to go ‘budget Clubbin’’ in style by taking a limo to the Rio. In the Rio Baars has to phone home because he maxed out pretty much every piece of plastic in his wallet. One can clearly see he isn’t to happy about informing the home front on his bad fortune.

Most of us are suffering from a huge after dinner dip so there’s some discussion whether or not we should go with the open bar package. According to the guy at the door it’s a slow night so we get in for free and decide against the package. I’d expected the place to be completely empty due to the ‘slow night’ but there are like 50 people on the roof Clubbin’ it up. The view is great, the DJ is really hot and she’s playing decent Clubbin’ music however….I’m chewing on my Corona as if it’s filled with quicksand. Although the food portion at Kwok’s was rather small I feel like I’m about to explode. It’ t’s time to switch back to the recipe that made Sunday night rather epic; wodka Red Bull.

The first wodka Red Bull doesn’t improve my situation but the second one slides in rather nicely. By this time though some of the boys are done with the Voodoo Lounge and want to go back to IP. Hugo is always in for a night of Clubbin’. Iebus, Fratie & Peltinho are in obviously but I’m a little surprised to see Bozzie sneak in the Rockhouse when we arrive back at IP. It was about time though this old fart started Clubbin’. We already scratched Bozzie from the VPC goes Vegas 2013 list but he might just reclaim his spot tonight.

We pound on the Rockhouse dance floor and power drink wodka Red Bull’s till the lights go on around 5 AM. No strange sexual harassment incidents or cool pictures unfortunately. I don’t remember much accept for one entertainment industry incident. I’m hanging over the bar ordering some more Clubbin’ ammunition when out of nowhere some ugly fat chick sticks her hand in my boxer short and gives me what I can only describe as a rectal exam. She screams in my ear bud I don’t understand a word she’s saying and I’m just to flabbergasted to do or say anything. A bouncer saves me by throwing her out of the club leaving me speechless for about 15 minutes.

Coming back from a piss I find out the Rockhouse is closed already. Stumbling into the casino I find Baars & Hugo playing blackjack. Hugo is hungry and goes for a burger at "The Burger Place" in IP and go along. I didn’t even know there was such a place in IP. I’m not nearly hungry enough to eat at this dump so I head back to at the blackjack table where I see Bozzie. It’s friggin’ 6AM and Bozzie is still around. Wft. I can’t go to bed before Bozzie because I would have to hear that story for a year so we go on a stare down. Around 07:30 we compromise to step in the elevators together. I haven’t been winning anything this week but I’m winning this one for sure. I get out at floor 6 as Bozzie proceeds to 16. I take the next elevator back down, sit with Hugo and Baars for three more seconds and go to bed. Winning!

Walking into my room is like walking into a CSI Crime Scene. Fratie is still breathing so I just step over him and go to sleep.
